Toyota said that wide testing of the 2008 Prius that supposedly took a Southern California driver on a 30-mile runaway ride last week casts solemn misgivings on his story. On 8 March, James Sikes, 61, who lived in San Diego met with an incident, which was highly publicized. James Sikes said that his Prius's gas pedal stuck, causing his car to speed to 94 mph, he tried to free his gas pedal with his hand but did not say whether he put the car in neutral. When he called at 911, He was able to stop the vehicle by receiving instructions from a state trooper who pulled his cruiser alongside the speeding hybrid.

After that car was examined by Toyota and federal government investigators but they unable to repeat the incident according to congressional committee, which emerged an initial report of the testing on Sunday. It was a one-time occurrence, and failures do not always repeat such as Toyota laid out its evidence against Sikes's claim said by many Toyota drivers, who have reported runaway acceleration.

Toyota spokesman Mike Michels said, "There are significant inconsistencies between the account of March 8 and the findings of this investigation". Toyota has started to riposte with engineering evidence to say that its cars are safe after weeks of public regrets by top-level company officials.
