The 2010 Toyota Corolla was completely redesigned last year. Its good fuel economy, minimal road noise, and forgiving ride have stayed the same. New for 2010 is the addition of stability control as a standard option, and a telescoping steering wheel. There are five trim levels for 2010, below is an overview of specs and models.
Base-Comes standard with a manual transmission, air conditioning, 15 inch steel wheels, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power mirrors, and a CD stereo with MP3/WMA capability and an auxiliary jack. The engine is a 1.8 liter four cylinder that puts out 132hp and 128 pound feet of torque. Mileage is rated at 26mpg city and 35mpg highway according to their online auto brochure. A five speed automatic transmission is optional. Standard safety features include stability control, ABS brakes, front seat side airbags, full length side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints.
LE-Adds body color exterior mirrors, and power locks and windows. All engine, mileage and safety features stay the same.
S-Adds underbody spoilers, leather wrapped steering wheel, sport seats, fog lights, 16 inch steel wheels, and tow extra stereo speakers. All engine, mileage and safety features stay the same.
XLE-This model also has the 16 inch steel wheels but adds a sliding center armrest, luminescent gauges, wood grain interior trim, upgraded stereo, intermittent wipers, and keyless entry.
XRS-Adds a sport tuned suspension, rear spoiler, chrome interior trim, 17 inch alloy wheels, front strut tower base, and standard cruise control. The engine is a 2.4 liter four cylinder that puts out 158hp and 162 pound feet of torque. Mileage is rated at 22mpg city and 30mpg highway. This is the sports model of the corolla and has tighter handling and more power. All standard safety features are the same.
Notable options available on the S, XLE, and XRS are sunroof, navigation system, and an upgraded JBL sound system with Bluetooth and satellite radio connectivity. Leather interior is only available on the S and XRS models. Cruise control is standard on the XRS and optional on all other trim levels.
In government crash testing, the Corolla earned four out of five stars for its protection of occupants in frontal collisions. Side impact testing resulted in a perfect five stars for front occupants and four stars for rear passengers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Corolla a top rating of "good" for its frontal offset and side impact collision performance.
